The Ten-Thousand Portraits Project...isn't so much a project. It's become my life. I draw anyone and everyone who's sitting in front of me when I have a few sheets of paper and my two pens. It just takes three minutes, drawing with two hands, to finish a fellow passenger's face. I give a portrait and I get a smile in exchange.
...Einfach so (it's that simple). 10,000 portraits by 2020 seems like a crazy goal. Except I made it. On August 31st 2019, I drew my 10,000th portrait. I took a break. I let my hands rest. One week later, I was already back at it. Right now, I'm over 15K. Someday I'll finish the next 10,000. |

The People You Meet......while travelling come in all shapes and sizes. They speak all manner of languages and have all sorts of stories to tell. It always feels awesome to make a connection with them. And when I can get a train-car full of strangers to chat with eachother? To bond over the pictures I drew for them just minutes before? There's no feeling like that. I almost never meet these people again. But some of them left a lasting memory in me.
I've been snapping photographs of the portraits I draw since the start of 2018. You can view them all by pressing the button below. There's thousands of portraits there. They all have a story. |

Thousands More to GoAfter reaching ten-thousand portraits, I won't stop. Drawing people has just become a part of my life. As long as these two hands can keep moving, I'll keep drawing.
